Dust on the Altar Reviews
Dust on the Altar excerpt
Jade watched the stripe of moonlight reflected on the lake surface shimmer and dance as the gentle breeze formed small ripples. “Dragonfly Lake,” she said quietly.
Without moving, April asked, “What?”
“That’s what I used to call it.” She sat up straight and raised her chin toward the water. “Each summer when I was little, I saw fairies riding the backs of dragonflies, dueling each other like knights at a jousting match. They would chase each other around, like some kind of complicated dance, trailing fairy dust behind them that glittered in the sunlight.” She smirked at the bittersweet memory and looked around the lake. Even this late in the year, there should have been a few out. They loved the full moon, and tonight it shone brightly, even with the scattered clouds. She couldn’t tell if they were missing because they were gone, or if she just couldn’t see them anymore.
